On Sunday I headed out to Connecticut on a visiting committee for
NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges). The school I am visiting is an Islamic
school.
The purpose of the visiting team is to determine if the
school should be accredited by NEASC. We
spend our days observing classes, confirming information written in the
school’s self-study report and verifying if the school passes or fails each of
the 15 standards. We write a report
incorporating all information we have found and submit our recommendations to
NEASC.
It’s a four day process that involves hours of work. I have been working until midnight each
night. It is work that I greatly enjoy,
time spent with a variety of people who have varied educational experiences,
organizing information, and a hotel for three nights! J
Having had no previous interaction with the Muslim world,
this has been a good experience also.
People are people.
Assalamu ‘Alaikum ;)
