Chicks

We started with 41 eggs in our incubator at school.  We candled them weekly.  At day 14, we had 17 eggs that had movement inside and heartbeats.  On day 21 (when they are supposed to hatch) we had nothing.  Something happened to the eggs over that week.  So some clever moms switched out a couple of the eggs for chicks one evening, and when the students came in there were two chicks.  One had something wrong with its leg though, so I had to spend them morning watching a baby chick drag itself around...pretty horrific.  The moms took that one away and brought in 8 more, so we ended up with about 10 chicks in our room for a few days.  I had the most popular one in the school for those days.  It was great fun for everyone to pick them up and spend time with them.  Now the chicks are off to the woman's house that they came from.
