Toby

Toby's allergies have become very strong this season.  He coughs, gasps, has swollen eyes, and feels miserable.  He seems to manage with Allegra and eye drops, but it's not great.

We have been working through the testing process through the Auburn Public Schools and finally had our initial meeting to go over the test results and see if Toby qualifies for services.  He did qualify and now has an IEP.  The IEP is for writing and spelling services, along with speech.  The writing and spelling he will continue to receive through one-on-one Barton tutoring at WCS (which is much better than the inclusion classroom offered by APS).  He will receive speech twice weekly through the Auburn schools starting in the Fall.  I'm not sure how that is going to work as they are only available during school hours and I am working, but I will make my schedule work in order to get him there.

The best thing about this is that he will now be able to have accommodations at school, if needed, and I'm sure some will be needed as he heads off to a traditional 4th grade classroom in the Fall.

As far as reading goes, he is reading more and more and faster and faster.  He has the most AR points in the whole class.  He loves to read and reads far above grade level with great comprehension.  I am so thankful for this.  Dealing with writing and spelling difficulties is hard enough and I'm thrilled that he doesn't have a reading disability to work through also.  On top of that, it's just wonderful to have another child who loves to read in our family.  Right now he is working his way quickly through the Septimus Heap series.
