Lucy

I held off on a Lucy post because I knew that she would be receiving two surprise (to her!) awards on Tuesday.  This year she received the Presidential Education Award, which is given for an 85% or higher on the English Language Arts and Math portions of the IOWA tests, and a 90% or higher GPA.  She also received the Presidential Fitness Award.  Here's how you earn that one: Award Benchmarks  Out of all the 4th and 5th grade students, 11 students earned the fitness award and only two of them were boys!

It was very exciting because that had been the goal since the beginning of the school year, but we didn't think she had made the academic one, due to a "B" that she received in Grammar one quarter, but turns out they average the grades so she was all set.  I knew a few weeks before the ceremony, but didn't tell her, and she was very surprised and happy.

She has one more week of swimming lessons and then she will have completed all the swimming levels.  She talks about doing the swim team but I haven't really looked into it yet.

She just finished up an after school quilting class where they hand quilted a small quilt.  She enjoyed it, but I don't know if she's going to attempt a full-size quilt anytime soon.
