Yesterday was decorate gingerbread houses day. I bought the kits after Christmas last year at a very reduced rate and they survived the year, unlike the gold chocolate coins and handwarmers that I bought for Sam's stocking. Those were both eaten by a mouse in the closet! So far we've caught two in the closet, and I use the "we" very loosely. And no, I didn't buy the coins and handwarmers a year ago, even though my phrasing makes it seem that way.
Lowell and Barbara came and helped with the houses. They were going to go to the Pops Concert but when that was cancelled they went to Lucy's game instead.
The houses were pretty much a disaster and kept falling apart, but Amelia's tree came out well.
Today Sam got to try out his "new" snowblower. Our neighbors gave it to him a few months ago because they got a bigger one and this one had a broken belt. He fixed the belt and said that it was fabulous to use today.
Playing in the snow for the first time this year.
Yesterday I made my first batch of homemade marshmallows - peppermint, because Lucy and I are going to give marshmallows and homemade cocoa as gifts to some people. They came out well, but I might have put a bit too much peppermint. This is the recipe I used: Peppermint Marshmallows
This week I made Lamb Meatball Gyros with Yogurt and Mint. These were delicious and made me think that perhaps I could make beef meatballs also. This was the only meal I made this week because we were only home together one night this week, and only at dinner time that night. This coming week has the same craziness, but then I have two full weeks off, which will be lovely.
Today I made Pasta with Marinara, Sausage, and Ricotta. This was also delicious. We are having Sausage, Leek and Apple Stuffing for dinner. I guess it's a sausage kind of day.
I finished wrapping all presents yesterday. There are still a few things coming in the mail, but not much. Feels good to have that done, especially since my Christmas cards haven't arrived yet, so I'll have those to do when they do arrive.
We are going to watch Babes in Toyland in a bit, and that's about all that is planned for the rest of the day, which is good because tomorrow we have school, basketball practice, and the Pops concert!
