Tuesday

I discovered something quite phenomenal today.  On the way home from school and visiting my grandmother and getting gas, I stopped and got a coffee.  I get a coffee in the morning, but never one in the afternoon.  We got home at 4:30.  I drank my coffee.  I was completely energized.  I washed the outside of the fridge.  I washed the bathroom walls.  I did everything I needed to do to get ready for tomorrow.  I made a salad with dinner!  I read 14 books to Amelia.  It is now 8:18 and I had the calmest afternoon/evening ever, and I think I owe it completely to that afternoon coffee which made me feel energized and capable, instead of just wanting to crawl in bed.

I'm going to try it again tomorrow...

Books:  I have read The Little Way of Ruthie Leming . It's a memoir and very good, especially as far as it deals with family and relationships.  I thought the writing was a bit choppy.  I also read Freud's Mistress which I again thought was quite good.  I know very little about Freud, so even though this was fiction, it was interesting.  I also read Carry On, Warrior: Thoughts on Life Unarmed and put it on my amazon list.  I follow her blog: www.momastery.com and the  book was excellent.  It helps that one of her favorite author's is Anne Lamott, who is my favorite author. Definitely one to re-read and I might use it for faculty devotions at school this year.

Food:  Last week for the first week of school I made three soups, Broccoli Cheese, Chicken Taco, and Potato.  Tomorrow we are having Kale and Sausage soup.  I guess I'm on a soup kick.

I'm also planning on using my crockpot a couple of times a week, so if you have a great crockpot recipe, email me the link.

Here are two links I've read:  For the One Who Married Young which I thought made some good points, worth thinking about.  I've also been doing some reformed theology vs. baptist theology reading, since I teach at a reformed school. Reformed Beliefs

School:  I haven't been blogging because I've been pretty occupied with school when I'm not occupied at home.  My new class is going well, but there is quite a learning curve.  20 students vs. 14 last year.  Two different grade levels in one room.  A schedule that seems crazy and hard to remember right now.  Having 20 students learn how to use computers in a competent fashion.  Doing new curriculum in all subjects.  But it is going and each day is better than the one before it.  I'm loving having the Evernote portfolios.  I'm loving have an online reading assessment.  I'm loving that some students have tested out of the first math module and are doing Khan Academy.  I'm loving the parent feedback, so far. :)

And now, the kids are in bed, everything is done, Sam has made me meringues, and I'm heading to bed to read.
