Wednesday

Ah...the weather!

Our chickens are going further and further afield...and if you know where we live, there are no fields.  Today I had to run out into the upper road/driveway to get them so that our neighbors could drive by.

Yesterday Lucy and Toby put tents out in the yard to play with...Today Lucy set up a backyard house for her Calico Critters while Toby planted trees in the sandbox.  Amelia runs back and forth between the two, yelling "mine" constantly.

The bulbs we planted in the Fall have bloomed.

Amelia sings "Jesus Loves Me" and you can tell what she is singing and it's very cute.  She also loves to "cook" in the bathtub and regularly floods the bathroom floor.  Today when I went down to the basement to switch the laundry, water was dripping through the hole for the pipes...oops!

Toby's glasses broke today in a permanent way.  We went to Walmart for new ones...89 for bifocal lenses and 18 for the frames...I was very happy!

Speaking of money, Amelia's trip to the hospital is costing us 500 dollars.  My insurance card said it would be 250, but then I got the bill yesterday.  Turns out Fallon never sent me our new cards from when our insurance policy renewed...they were happy to send them out now to show me that we now pay 500 dollars for hospital stays...my children won't be staying in the hospital again!  They do offer a 20% reduction if you pay within 14 days which is pretty substantial.

I planned next year's Science and Social Studies units last night.  This is going to be a summer of getting everything ready.  I would love to teach 2nd grade again.  If I did, it would be my first time repeating a year (I've always taught 2nd grade, but there have always been other grades or other situations that make the years different) and it would be so wonderful.  The basics are done and now I could expand on things.  I guess it depends on the numbers though.  Hopefully we find out soon.

Tomorrow we are celebrating Sam's birthday with my parents...

Have I mentioned Discovery Kits before?  The Shrewsbury library has them and they are a lifesaver for teachers.  I used the Butterfly one in the Fall and was given books, hands-on materials, games, etc.  Sam is picking up the Weather one for me tomorrow.  It comes in a huge bag and it's stuffed full of things to use, read, and watch.  They have them for all different themes.  If you normally use www.cwmars.org, you just do a keyword search for Discovery Kits.  They do have to be reserved over the phone, instead of online, but you can keep them for a long time, and they are fabulous.

Off to watch Gossip Girl and finish Girl with the Dragon Tattoo...although I probably won't do either of those things...they've been moving along my calendar every day.  I am almost done the second book out of the four I had received.  "Ask Me Why I Hurt" was excellent, well-written, and makes you want to become a doctor and help homeless children.  "Italian for Beginners" is excellent also in a totally different genre way. :)
